Volunteer Opportunities

"Our chapter is run by volunteers. They are the lifeblood of our existence. Therefore, we make it a top priority to see that volunteers receive professional and personal benefit in return for their service." ~ Jeffrey Hansler, 2016-2017 President

Besides giving you greater visibility in your professional community, volunteering helps you:

  • Increase your market value through experiential learning
  • increase and strengthen your network
  • Develop skills for use back on the job (including leadership and supervisory skills, which are key to career advancement!)

What's more, you can give back by helping others as you have been helped in your career, and make a positive difference in your field. Below are open positions in ATD-Orange County. For more information, complete our Volunteer Interest Form, or contact Kathleen Ashelford at talentmgmt@atdoc.org

The Technology office of the ATD OC Chapter provides technology solutions that improve the membership experience, and ensure the Board and other volunteers are able to maximize their time when working on behalf of the chapter. In 2017 this will be achieved by streamlining web content, maximizing the use of add on tools such as the Google suite of products, and providing storage solutions for large media files.

This team is focused on ensuring that ATD-OC volunteers get back as much as they give. Do you have ideas on how we can say "thank you"? How should the Chapter tailor its volunteers' roles to align more closely with their career goals? If you have ideas about engagement, support, and appreciation for those who are the life blood of ATD-OC, then you belong on this team!

     - Should we throw a big "Thank You" party? Several smaller events?
     - Should we revise our Year End Special Awards?
     - How can we help further volunteers' career goals?
     - What are the best ways to say "Thank You!" and "You Rock!"

We will also explore increasing skill development, mentoring, coaching, and leadership opportunities; plus visibility and networking.

The ATD-OC is experimenting with visual and audio media to connect with executives and talent development specialists.

In today’s social media world, you need to be an AV expert as well as an expert in talent development. Or do you? Some of the hottest trends and developments in the world come from raw video feeds by people passionate about what they do.

And aren’t talent development professionals passionate about what they do?

Somewhere on the scale of the typical business video and raw footage is the sweet spot to engage executives responsible for million dollar decisions and learners. Let’s find it!

Actions are experiments to discover styles that work for subjects, corporate cultures, and target audiences. We believe ATD-OC is the right place with the right people to shed light on the subject.

We are currently experimenting with hybrid meetings for our Monthly Learning Events and SIG meetings. Come be part of the expanded reach of our programs.

Committee members: 4 plus a Chairperson

Initial Time Commitment for the year: 10 hours

All meetings currently virtual: One a quarter / depending on project

Meetings fall into four categories and cycle:

    • Meeting A: Initial discussion of ideas for next project
    • Meeting B: Revisit top ideas, choose one, choose implementation role
    • Meeting C: Review progress mid-way of implementation
    • Meeting D: Debrief outcomes and extend, recycle, or terminate project

    It’s time to engage.

    Join the committee now.

If you're someone who wants to get into writing, explore what's involved in the marketing and communications aspects of talent development, or simply looking for unique opportunities to network with seasoned practitioners in the talent development field, we're eager to chat with you.

ATD-OC is looking to add to our community's pool of knowledge through the creation of original content. The content would address topics of interest to the talent development community, and would explore the myriad of development opportunities our chapter offers its members.

You could submit original content based upon your experiences in training, instructional design, or eLearning, or you could select from one of our Community Content Calendar topics. And while we'd be thrilled to list you as a "Chapter Writer," we'll be equally elated if you elect to take on a single article. Either way, you'll find a way to get your unique voice out to a community of talent development professionals.

To get started, simply complete our Call for Writers interest form, or contact our Social Media Coordinator at SMOC@astdoc.org.
