The Training and Technology Special Interest Group is a community devoted to the design and development of learning solutions that utilize the technologies impacting the talent development industry.

The Training and Technology SIG intends to provide both opportunity to:

  • learn about the technologies that drive both eLearning and mLearning
  • share among peers the lessons learned for eLearning implementation

Our Goal

By the end of the year, each participant will have created a training module that can represent our skills as an eLearning instructional designer.

Our Plan

  • Meet over the web to address eLearning topics
  • Work throughout the year on an eLearning project
  • Meet once a quarter to review project work, troubleshoot, and tackle the thorny issues
  • Work on a project from actual clients

Our Authorware

To meet our current client's needs, the conversations that we're having will focus on using Adobe Captivate.  That said, we frequently draw parallels to Storyline, and the techniques we apply can be re-engineered in other systems.

Learn a little more about our group:

We've recorded the first two of our webinars.  You're more than welcome to check them out, see if this group is right for you.

  • Introduction Webinar
We discuss the plan and our expectations for SIG Group Members.

  • Design Methodologies
ATD advocates the ADDIE model when designing training -- in fact, our Total Trainer University is built on it. But is that model the best approach when designing eLearning?

In this webinar, we tap into the experiences of our community to discuss different instructional design methodologies applied when creating eLearning.

  • Selecting the Right Authorware
In the Training and Technology SIG's June session, we determined that all things being equal, authorware selection can be based on personal preference. Something you can accomplish in Captivate you can most likely accomplish in Storyline, and vice versa. But it's very seldom that all things are equal, so we consider the following: Learn more.
