In 2011, Salman Kahn delivered a TED Talk in which he introduced the concept of a “flipped classroom.”  Since then, that has been one of many buzzwords trending in the talent development field.

But what is a “flipped classroom?”  How can we apply this technique in corporate training?

To begin the conversation, take a minute to view this video, which illustrates the flipped classroom with a visual from The Center for Teaching and Learning at The University of Texas at Austin.

In our January 24 session,  we'll discuss the flipped classroom while exploring:

    • Techniques
    • Tools
    • Application to the corporate training room

    About the Presenter:

The presenters for this course are too many to mention, because they’re YOU!

We'll be applying the techniques of a flipped classroom in this session,  so we'll be delving into the knowledge,  experiences,  and ideas of everyone who joins the session.

Let's increase that presenter list by one more, shall we?  Register today!

Recently, when the Georgia Dome was being demolished, the Weather Channel set up a live camera to show its audience what promised to be a fantastic implosion.

    And this happened:

Link to full video here: https://youtu.be/3oXhLdeuxDw

We're using this video as a metaphor for that big training program that's about to launch.  If we don't take a step back, review the big picture, and then identify all the details that could impact the big picture, we run the risk of something easily predictable disrupting a session.

So this February we're going to look into what goes into a successful training program.  Not necessarily the instructional design or facilitation skills, although those are significant to a program's success, but all the other shifting pieces that contribute to a program's success.

We'll learn from the successes and the escapades of our panelists:

    Victoria Torres

From the selection and launch of an LMS to the development of eLearning content, OneOC’s Director of Professional and Organizational Development has led significant changes in how the non-profit organization supports its training and development outreach.

    Anthony Harmetz

The force behind ATD-Orange County’s Total Trainer University, Anthony Harmetz has shepherded both the launch of the Total Trainer: Delivering Training program and the revitalization of Total Trainer: Creating Training.  Anthony has established and led the learning function as Bally Total Fitness’ National Training Director, and now independently helps organizations with training strategy, instructional design, training delivery, and coaching.

    Karen Merriman

Winner of Brandon Hall Group’s Excellence in Learning Award and LearnX’s Best eLearning Project (Rapid Authoring), Karen Merriman brings experiences and stories of program launches through automotive and manufacturing industries.

...and hopefully find out how to keep busses from driving through our programs.

    • Virtual

One of the biggest challenges in delivering virtual training is how to keep your audience actively participating. The purpose of this isn’t just to discourage multitasking, but more importantly, to ensure that your audience connects with you, finds value, and ultimately learns from you.

Most training professionals know the functionality of webinar platforms; how to start, screen share, view the chat and record. But you may have asked yourself, How do I create an interactive experience that goes beyond Q&A and the chat box?

Join this session to recharge your creative thinking cap and experience best practices in audience engagement for virtual delivery!

    Who Should Attend

Talent Development professionals who deliver synchronous virtual training or want to transfer in-person training to a virtual course.

    What You'll Take-away

    • Outline top engagement tactics that are easy and effective.
    • Identify in-person presentation techniques that can be transformed to fit the virtual environment.
    • Utilize elements of the flipped learning model to maximize in-session time.
    • Illustrate best practices in managing the webinar platform to ensure attention and engagement during your session.
    • Discover ways to extend interaction outside of the training event to prepare the mindset of your audience before, and encourage conversation after.
