An exploration of tools and techniques to facilitate outstanding virtual events!

In our March 2018 learning event, GoToWebinar guru Cohrena Bahr suggested that virtual meeting activities need not be limited to polling and chats.  We subscribe to her mentality that one should design a virtual training session with the same approach as one were to design an instructor-led training session, and explore ways to apply online technology to achieve those goals.

Today's discussion: Online Activities That Engage.

For some webinars, a significant challenge is just getting people talking and interacting with the content.  In this Happy Hour, we'll walk through a few activities designed that (should) do just that, and open up the discussion to explore activities that you've successfully used.

Agenda:

ATD-OC's Virtual Happy Hour will be divided into two discrete components:

  1. the tools and techniques presentation.
  2. the online discussion between participants to discuss how they might apply the information shared in that presentation.

About our Facilitator:

An ATD designated Master eLearning Instructional Designer, Paul Venderley has spent the better part of his 20 years in L&D applying forward-looking techniques to create engaging learning programs.  His diverse portfolio includes webinar, leader-led, and blended learning projects for clients within the mortgage banking, education, non-profit, and manufacturing industries.

Look for Paul at an ATD-Orange County meeting, where he is an active leader pulling the strings behind the scenes of our monthly learning events.  He’s revived their Training and Technology Special Interest Group, applying his affinity for eLearning to coach teams on the design and development of eLearning projects for various Orange County non-profit organizations.

Or you may find him in other places where learning and development enthusiasts congregate: he is a 2019 Learning Solutions presenter, co-facilitating a discussion on the application of online resources to support a synchronous blended learning environment.

You’ll definitely find him at Crane Morley, where he’s collaborating with instructors at the Southern California Gas Company to redesign their current weeks-long instructor-led programs into a streamlined training initiative that blends multiple web-based training modules with practical hands-on training.
