Augmented reality (AR) is a widely used technology in games, marketing, and everyday apps, but what about learning and development?

Where do you get started?

How should you use it?

Finding answers to these questions can be difficult and cause developers to overlook the potential this technology holds. In this session, we will answer these questions and more through discussion, development, and Interaction.

Augmented reality is the digital overlay of information onto the real world. This happens when you physically scan an object or image with a device, bringing digital data into the framed scene. The good news is that AR will benefit companies of any size, and it’s easier and more affordable to get started developing in AR than you think.

Utilizing new technology can seem intimidating. Augmented Reality at a glance can seem difficult, time-consuming, and resource-intensive. However, it’s actually a lot easier and more affordable to incorporate Augmented Reality into your training than you think. The question is, where do you start?

This session will demonstrate how easy it is to get started using augmented reality (AR) in learning development. Destery will introduce you to low-cost tools and resources to make developing an AR project simple, effective, and engaging.

In this session, you will:

  • create a custom AR experience.
  • explore other interactive AR experiences built in a wide variety of tools.
  • learn where AR fits in a design workflow and how it can enhance different learning scenarios.

You will leave knowing:

  • the difference between Augmented, Mixed, and Virtual Reality
  • about low-cost tools available to create AR projects
  • what elements make a successful AR project
  • where you can begin incorporating AR in your learning projects

You will leave this session with the working knowledge of planning, building, and sharing an AR project with the world.

ATD Capability Model

Each ATD-OC Learning Event will be aligned to one Talent Development  Capability, as identified by ATD National.

This program aligns with:

  • Technology Application
  • Instructional Design
  • Training Delivery and Facilitation

Talent development professionals should be able to implement a multilevel, systematic method for gathering, analyzing, and reporting on information about the effectiveness and effort of learning programs.
