Analogies are one of the most powerful tools in a trainer’s toolkit, and a trainer’s skill in creating and using analogies can make a big difference to their learners.

As you know, an analogy is a comparison of one thing to another that is quite different from it. Why’s it important to hone your analogy-making skill?  Here are a few reasons:

  • Analogies make difficult information easy to understand.  Concepts and other information that are challenging, complex, intimidating, and/or unfamiliar become suddenly easy to grasp with the right analogy.
  • Analogies enable long-term retention.  Somehow, humans are wired to remember analogies long after they’ve been used.
  • Analogies are fun—they spice up a training sessions, engage your learners, and provide quick bursts of excitement.

In the May Trainer’s Special Interest Group meeting, we’ll focus on how you can leverage analogies in your daily training interactions and do it organically and easily.  We’ll work on:

  • How to build the right analogy into your presentation in advance.
  • Developing your ability to create great analogies in real-time, making your training presentations more dynamic and exciting
  • Specific actions you can take to connect with new or seasoned trainees through analogies, both in formal training sessions and your one-on-one interactions

We could go on and on about the benefits of analogies, but we’ll add just one more:  Analogies are easy to pass on.  People leave your training sessions and pass on their learning to others without realizing they’re serving as your emissaries each time they share your analogies.

Join us on May 19th to take your use of analogies to the next level.
