This is a special format that is a hybrid of our chapter meeting event. Join us for in-person networking and engagement with other live Learning Event attendees, as well as to a separate virtual audience.

 		This year we've discussed the various ways that we, as Talent Development practitioners, engage learners through onsite meetings and other first-rate onsite learning opportunities. We’ve explored flipped learning techniques. We’ve discussed innovative ways to keep learners engaged in the virtual environment.

How can we carry that high level of engagement into blended/hybrid onsite-online environments? An ever-expanding array of free or low-cost social media and online broadcast tools (e.g., Twitter, Google Hangouts, Google Docs, and Zoom) provide opportunities to seamlessly carry onsite interactions into online interactions, and extend the reach of online interactions back to onsite activities, but how can we use them effectively?

This highly interactive session will explore how we can foster learner participation through rethinking our ideas about blended learning, exploring blended learning opportunities, and seeing how the use of social media tools can connect otherwise unavailable presenters with members onsite and online. We will leave with a clearer picture of how to reach learners with learning opportunities that provide concrete, positive, measurable results, and with plenty of ideas about how to immediately put lessons learned to use in our workplaces.

Participants, by the end of this session, should be able to return to their organizations with at least two:

  • Ideas for effectively extending the way they work with colleagues and learners in blended/hybrid (onsite-online) environments using low cost/no-cost tools
  • Examples they can adapt to serve their learners and others online
  • Ideas for extending the reach of their talent development efforts into online environments
   

About our presenter:

Paul Signorelli, co-writer of Workplace Learning & Leadership (ALA Editions, 2011) and author of the forthcoming Change the World Using Social Media (Rowman & Littlefield, autumn 2018), works extensively as a trainer, facilitator, writer, presenter, and consultant who explores, uses, and writes about e-learning, educational technology, social media tools, leadership, collaboration, and innovation.   
He earned a Master’s degree in nonprofit management (arts administration) and a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science; served on New Media Consortium advisory boards/expert panels documenting trends, challenges, and educational technology innovations in a variety of settings before helping found FOEcast (Future of Education Forecast) in 2018; remains active in a variety of online communities including #lrnchat and #etmooc; helps clients and colleagues incorporate the use of social media tools into their work in ways that ultimately serve their customers; and continues to be deeply involved in local, regional, and national nonprofit organizations including ATD and the American Library Association. Focusing on the Foundation: Technology Literacy

Each ATD-OC Learning Event will be aligned to one Talent Development Foundational Competency, as identified by ATD National.

This May, we'll give our learners a hands-on opportunity to use technology effectively in training, and demonstrate awareness of how far technology can go to support learners' needs.

Earlybird registration ends at 5 p.m. on the Monday before the meeting.

For evening meetings: Pre-registration closes at noon on the day of the meeting, but walkins are welcome.
