Finding and keeping talent are the crucial elements of an organization's ability to improve profitability, manage costs, innovate, develop new product services, and uncover new markets. While finding talent is incredibly hard these days, retaining that talent once we find them is an even bigger job.

Employees want fair pay. They also want challenging, meaningful work, a chance to learn and grow, recognition, respect, and a manager who understands these factors. These are vital to becoming an employer of choice and to adapting and thriving in this shifting global economy.

Talent development professionals are a vital component in creating a culture of retention and engagement. But, in today's unusual environment, what key steps can we take to help our organizations and our teams?

Based on her best seller, Love 'Em or Lose 'Em, which is now in its 6th edition…having survived three generations and twenty years in the global marketplace, Dr. Kaye will share the timeless strategies for retaining talent.

We'll also look at how well the strategies apply to the current challenges created by the global pandemic, a shift to remote work (and back to the office), the Great Resignation and an increased awareness of Diversity Equity Inclusion and Belonging in the workplace.

We know, that engagement, commitment, and loyalty are a result of being challenged, appreciated, heard, and respected. The difficulty is in the "how to!" Dr. Kaye will provide an array of alternatives for immediate implementation.

IMPORTANT:  At this event, we will take a few minutes to hold our required Annual Membership Meeting to report on the state of the chapter. All members are encouraged to attend.

What we know so far about this meeting...

With the current “Great Resignation,” the success of an organization’s Learning & Development strategies is more important than ever before. Key business goals for many organizations include attracting and retaining new talent, retaining current talent and developing them to take on new roles

    But what’s actually working?

As Talent Development professionals we strive to understand the changing trends in Talent Development.  We consider how those trends may impact our own organization.  Understanding which L&D strategies are working for other local organizations that face similar challenges helps provide a broader context for our understanding.

Orange County, California is home to a variety of impressive companies, nonprofits and higher education organizations.  Each of these organizations crafts a Learning and Development strategy based on their unique needs.

At this session, you’ll hear stories of success from local leaders and learn about the strategies that are helping them achieve their Learning and Development goals and the strategies they’re planning to use next.

Employee surveys are a commonly used – and commonly misused – tool for learning about our clients’ challenges. Poorly done, however, a survey can exhaust organizational will, dampen employee engagement and overwhelm a sincere change effort. Done well, an employee survey can illuminate complex problems and engage staff in future change efforts.

While the pitfalls are numerous, the keys to a successful survey project are only a few. And most of them are NOT commonly known in business circles.

Join us for an evening that delves into effective survey design.

Are YOU using surveys correctly? Attend to find out!

Talley is the founder of Organizational Diagnostics, a Bay Area firm started in 1984 specializing in diagnostic surveys to identify organizational problems.  Based on the knowledge gleaned from over 250 corporate engagements, his practice expanded in 2000 to include design and implementation of specific interventions.  His current practice -- under the banner of JLTalley & Associates -- has included clients in high tech, hospitality, hospitals, pharmaceuticals, higher education, consulting houses, the military, manufacturing, banks and credit unions, public utilities, entertainment and broadcasting, the food industry, aerospace, commercial construction, city and county government, and numerous not-for-profits.

Prior to his work in consulting, Jerry taught at Stanford’s Sociology Department and the Marriage and Counseling Masters program at Santa Clara University. He also provided training programs for the organizational development programs at San Jose State and Alliant University.

His areas of special interest include advanced problem solving, strategic planning, work process design, and survey design and analysis. After 450 client engagements, his current focus is on accelerating the development of newer consultants through mentoring, teaching, and coaching.
